10 Horror Movie Heroes Everyone Forgets About

1. Ellen Ripley - Alien

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer
20th Century Fox

Alien is the peak of sci-fi horror. It perfectly encapsulates the dread and isolation of space, and the Xenomorph is a marvel. The use of practical effects brings it to life in a manner so ahead of its time, that it rivals many of the CG monsters we get spoiled with today.

Every good predator needs some prey to hunt, and the Nostromo has plenty of it. The Xenomorph stalks the crew through the vents, picking them off slowly and demonstrates its dominance as the apex predator. It's a horrifying sight that audiences haven't been able to take their eyes off for almost 50 years.

There is one crew member who manages to survive however, and that's Ellen Ripley. From the start she shows more brains than anyone else by trying to enforce quarantine regulations to ensure no contaminants end up on the ship. Even after all hell breaks loose, Ripley stays composed, evading the alien, while also fending off a rogue android attempting to save the alien. She is a bona fide badass who deserves a spot in the horror hall of fame.
