10 Horror Movie Heroes Everyone Forgets About

9. Marty Mikalski - The Cabin In The Woods

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer

It's easy to dismiss the stereotypical stoner character in horror, and usually they serve as nothing more than brief comic relief before meeting their demise. Marty Mikalski however, does a good job of flipping that trope on its head. Stoners, rejoice.

Marty recreational habit serves him well, and prevents The Organisation's various chemicals from affecting him. He sees the situation for what it is, spotting hidden cameras, hearing the subliminal messages, and more.

He's designated as The Fool by The Organisation, and at a glance he does fit this role. Over time though, he subverts expectations and eventually becomes the main protagonist. He suffers what appears to be an early death before making a heroic comeback. Marty is the one who saves Dana, the one who discovers The Organisation, and he's the one who plays the most important role at the end. Doesn't sound very foolish now, does he?

Despite all this, his survival does result in The Ancient ones rising up and destroying humanity, but he did say we shouldn't be afraid to let society crumble and start over. Who knows, he was right about everything else, so maybe it's for the best.
