10 Horror Movie Heroes Everyone Forgets About

8. Daniel Challis - Halloween III: Season Of The Witch

John Carpenter's original plan for the Halloween franchise was for it to be an anthology series, each entry being its own separate entity, unrelated to the others. After the success of the first film however, Michael Myers grew to be a horror icon and fans demanded more. The rest is history.

The third entry in the franchise gives us a glimpse at how Carpenter's plan would have played out. Season of the Witch features its own plot, revolving around Halloween masks designed to facilitate mass murder. It's blends horror and sci-fi, with a little bit of witchcraft thrown in for good measure.

With the absence of The Shape, Laurie Strode is also nowhere to be seen, and protagonist duties are carried out by Dr Daniel Challis instead. A flawed man with his own personal demons, Challis uncovers the Silver Shamrock company's plot and takes it upon himself to foil it.

The Halloween name hurts this entry and it's possible that it may have gotten a bit more shine as a standalone project. It's perhaps the most overlooked in the franchise even though subsequent sequels featuring Myers were hugely disappointing. Due to this, Challis is consigned to a fate of anonymity, to be forever overshadowed by Laurie Strode.
