10 Horror Movie Heroes That Should Have Been Villains

5. Kirby Reed - Scream VI

In Scream VI, Sam and Tara Carpenter and their friends are pursued by a new batch of Ghostfaces after killing the previous two, Richie and Amber, in 2022's Scream.

As part of the investigation into these new murders, Detective Bailey teams up with FBI Agent Kirby Reed, a character presumed to have died in Scream 4. When Bailey states that Kirby was kicked out of the FBI for instability, she becomes a prime suspect. However, it ends up being Bailey and his children Ethan and Quinn as the film's killers, with this a plan to avenge the death of Bailey's other son, Richie.

Even though Scream is renowned for its twists, there were simply too clues this time around that made it obvious Bailey was behind things. Also, it's a little lazy to use the "family revenge" trope yet again. In hindsight, it would've been less clichéd if Kirby was the one and only Ghostface, with it not too far-fetched that her own near-death experience with a masked lunatic would cause her to snap. Plus, it would've been fun to see a hero of a previous film become Ghostface - something that's never happened in the series so far.

Instead, Kirby's left-field return felt merely like fan service.
