8. Mother's Milk - Barbarian
Fresh off the back of his recent success with Weapons, writer-director Zach Cregger is currently the indie darling of the horror genre, but even though he saw great success with this sophomore effort, the impact on the genre of his debut picture, Barbarian, cannot be overstated.
Merging overbearing suspense and biting satirical comedy could have been a cause for disaster, but Cregger managed to pull it off with aplomb, crafting a tale that simultaneously kept audiences on the edge of their seat and stifling sniggers.
What starts as a tense scenario in which Tess arrives at an Airbnb only to discover a man is already there and is claiming to have the same booking, quickly devolves into a nightmarish experience with a grotesque woman who lives in the bowels beneath the house.
There's all manner of gruesome happenings throughout the course of the film, a few of which could have ended up on this list, but the moment that stands out the most is when everybody's favourite Scream King, Justin Long, is forcibly breastfed by the aforementioned grotesque woman.
It's a highly bizarre and disgusting scene that manages to horrify on a level unlike anything else in Barbarian.
