10 Horror Movie Openings That Get Worse The More You Think About It

5. The Ring

Like the Elm Street movies, the concept of The Ring is so widely known that it's almost a bit silly these days.

Both the original Japanese movie and its 2002 English-language counterpart centre around a demonic tape that, when watched, condemns its viewer to a violent death.

Audiences are caught up with this lore straight away, as a group of teenagers discuss the tape in film's opening. One girl, Katie, announces that she's seen it.

Her friend tries to convince her that it's just a myth, but Katie isn't convinced. She's proven right a few minutes later, at the expense of her life.

The human brain loves to believe it's in danger, even when all logic dictates that it's not. We all know that The Ring is just a story, an idea created for a movie to sell cinema tickets and popcorn.

But there's still a tiny part of all of us that believes it's real.

Don't say that The Ring doesn't flash through your mind whenever you received a "cursed" email or watch a video claiming to be demonic. Because it does. And that's why this movie is so scary - because it makes people think illogical thoughts.
