10 Horror Movie Openings That Get Worse The More You Think About It

A sequel to his earlier work Unbreakable, M. Night Shyamalan gave us Split in 2016.

It stars James McAvoy as Kevin, a man with 23 distinct personalities caused by his dissociative identity disorder. At the beginning of the movie, Kevin hijacks a car carrying three teenage girls. Once he has subdued them, he drives away, ready to inflict a world of torment on his poor victims.

The scene is brilliantly done. The girls sit in the back of the car whilst one of their fathers places something in the trunk. He is then taken out by Kevin, who sits in the driver's seat as if nothing is wrong.

Whilst the two young women sitting in the back seat don't notice Kevin is there, Casey (Anya Taylor-Joy) realises right away but does nothing. She is clearly petrified at the sight of this deranged man, but so much trauma would have been spared if she had acted sooner.

It's also terrifying to think how easily this could happen in real life. Kevin dispatched the father with ease and faced no resistance at all when getting into the car. It's a scary world out there, especially for young women.
