10 Horror Movie Parties We Wouldn't Want To Be Invited To

2. The Prom - Carrie (1976)

The Slumber Party Massacre
United Artists

School dances and first dates. Oh, precious memories! Not for everyone, as there are lots of people who consider these events to be a source of social anxiety and emotional turmoil. In Carrie White's case, there are layers and layers of extenuating circumstances that explain (if not outright justify) the psychic butchery she eventually unleashes upon her classmates.

After all, Carrie was just a shy girl who was duped into going to prom, just so she could be bullied and victimized once again. It was also the very last time, that's for sure. If we take her background into account, it's no surprise to discover why she hasn't been able to properly interact with others. The overbearing relationship with her mother is the biggest reason for her insecurities and lack of social skills. Even with her supernatural abilities, there was a chance for Carrie to become a well-adjusted teenager. However, her circumstances wouldn't allow such good fortune.

The prom almost seems like a unique opportunity for Carrie's redemption, but it turns to be everything but. No pig's blood during prom night, kids... or else.
