10 Horror Movie Performances That Fell Totally Flat
7. Dale Midkiff - Pet Sematary (1989)
1989's original Pet Sematary adaptation isn't a great movie - despite a fantastically show-stealing performance from Fred Gwynne as Jud Crandall - and perhaps the single worst thing about it? Dale Midkiff's utterly soporific turn as tragic protagonist Louis Creed.
The role of Louis requires an actor who can dig deep into some extremely rough emotional territory given the grief his character experiences, but Midkiff just doesn't have a fraction of the range to do it justice.
There's stoic and then there's... whatever this is. Despite suffering through the loss of both his son and wife and then using the pet cemetery to resurrect them, the guy's facial expression barely ever changes, ensuring that Louis feels like a mere thin sketch of a human being.
You'd think what he'd gone through was a mere minor inconvenience rather than any husband and father's worst nightmare. Needless to say, the casting of the great Jason Clarke as Louis in 2019's so-so remake was a major upgrade.
