10 Horror Movie Reveals NOBODY Was Ready For

4. Island of Rapists - Blink Twice (2024)

Pitched as a Channing Tatum vehicle, Blink Twice is a lot more than its marketing, allowing director ZoĆ« Kravitz the room to put a new spin on an old horror setup.

The film puts cocktail waitress Frida (Naomi Ackie) in the company of Dorsey-Musk-Epstein-hybrid billionaire Slater King (Tatum), as the pair abscond with a super selective group for a seemingly endless holiday on Slater's island. Now, few among us will not have braced the nail-biting delights of a well-threaded memory loss horror, where gaslighting and psychological games are the order of the day, and though Blink Twice at first appears to be anything but, things unwind at pace once the girls on the island start getting flashes of some freaky night-time excursions.

This setup provides a compelling mystery throughout, with unexplained occurrences, injuries, disappearances and a mounting sense of dread, but the reveal of what's really going on catches everyone off guard - even though we kind of know already. Revealed in stark and shocking fashion late in the film, when Frida gets her memory back, we suddenly segue into a full-on scene of the girls being chased, pinned and sexually assaulted.

Although we have strong suspicions leading up to it, it's the sudden introduction of such a scene that gets us, showing the very worst of what we might have imagined, with no time to ease in to it and get ourselves acclimatised - but that's kind of the point.
