10 Horror Movie Robots That Scared Us Out Of Our Minds
7. M3gan - M3gan
Since M3gan leans more into the horror-comedy schtick, you may worry the titular android wouldn't come across as scary. (Especially after seeing that spaghetti-armed dance memed to death.)
However, Gerald Johnstone's film juggles the scares and humour effectively, and no one demonstrates this more than M3gan herself. Because the life-size doll can be genuinely funny, it's more unnerving when she gives a passive-aggressive stare, delivers a flippant comment, or tilts her head like a predator. Also, the way she maintains her upbeat manner while maiming her victims makes her feel more like a gleeful serial killer than a robot.
M3gan proves to be a much more intriguing villain than other evil toy characters like Chucky and Annabelle, since her erratic behaviour stems from a place of purity rather than evil. All M3gan wants to do is protect Cady - an eight-year-old who lost her parents in a fire. When M3gan believes those around Cady intend to harm her, she takes drastic measures, (which happens to involve a lot of stabbing). Because M3gan believes her actions are for the greater good, it makes her far more terrifying.
