10 Horror Movie Scenes Shot In A Single Take

1. Danny’s Trike Ride - The Shining

Even if Soft & Quiet was filmed in one go, it (and everything else on this list) pales in comparison to one of the all-time great shots from any branch of cinema.

You could write a book about how influential Stanley Kubrick's take on The Shining was. In fact, many people have. The Torrances' ill-fated vacation is still regarded as a classic, and with good reasons, thanks in part to fantastic scenes like young Danny riding his tricycle through the Overlook Hotel.

This unbroken tracking shot of Danny's Big Wheel is the prelude to the iconic "Come play with us" scene, and it does a fantastic job of heightening viewers' senses ahead of this big moment.

As he pedals through the rooms and hallways, the hollow rattling of the trike's wheels becomes unbearable, as you sit there and wait for something awful. The shot goes on and on and on, dragging the audience further and further into the Overlook's hypnotic pull, cutting away before anything happens.

Then, just when you think you're safe, bam! Creepy twins!

Kubrick's brilliance goes without saying, but this scene was a wonderful example of his talent.
