10 Horror Movie Scenes That Totally Trolled Everyone

9. Film Within A Film - Scream 4

Love it or hate it, Scream 4's fourth wall-obliterating opening scene saw Wes Craven giddily mess with fans and their expectations of a pre-title sequence.

The film kicks off with two young women (Lucy Hale and Shenae Grimes) being murdered by Ghostface in what seems to be a dead-ordinary Scream movie opening.

Yet as they perish, Wes Craven reveals that we're actually watching the start of Stab 6, the horror franchise that exists within the Scream franchise itself, being based (loosely) off the events of the prior movies.

Stab 6 is being watched by two friends (Anna Paquin and Kristen Bell) who go on to complain about the state of modern horror flicks, before Bell's character pulls out a knife and guts Paquin with it.

Craven then pulls back once more to reveal that this is Stab 7, as is being watched by Jenny (Britt Robertson) and Marnie (Aimee Teegarden), who turn out to be Scream 4's first "real" victims, as they're slaughtered by Ghostface moments later.

This marked a clear attempt to one-up the memorable openings of the previous Scream films, and while some feel that it ultimately went a few measures too meta for its own good, it certainly got the film off to an unpredictable, anything-goes start.
