3. The Audience Dies - The Final Destination
In the third act of the fourth and decidedly not final Final Destination movie, protagonist Nick (Bobby Campo) sees a premonition of an explosion which destroys the local mall and in turn kills many of the movie's remaining characters.
Amusingly, one of the deaths in the premonition is Janet (Haley Webb), who at the time is watching a 3D movie in the mall's cinema and is killed along with countless others when the mall explosion sends shrapnel hurtling through the cinema screen.
Clearly the filmmakers couldn't help but wink at those watching this movie itself in the cinema, in 3D no less.
The Final Destination franchise might be shamelessly silly escapist entertainment, but this scene was nevertheless nudging the viewer in the ribs and reminding them that even the sacred cinema isn't a safe haven from death - albeit in extremely extra circumstances.
