10 Horror Movie Sequels MASSIVELY Better Than The Original

Rob Zombie's directorial debut House of 1000 Corpses is an incredibly roughshod horror film which, while cementing Zombie's penchant for deeply unpleasant imagery and graphic violence, doesn't offer a whole lot else worth clinging to - apart from Sid Haig's Captain Spaulding, of course.

But Zombie's sequel, The Devil's Rejects, feels like far less of an empty homage to some of the director's favourite horror films, fashioned instead as a blood-soaked road movie Western in which the murderous Firefly family now become the protagonists.

Like its predecessor, The Devil's Rejects will make you want to take a long, hot shower afterwards, but Zombie seems to have a far greater handle on both his characters and the film's style this time around.

The obnoxious editing choices of House of 1000 Corpses are switched out for stylistic tics that perfectly homage the exploitation era the film is so obviously indebted to.

Plus, it ends with one of cinema's finest invocations of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Free Bird," which alone puts it far above the original.
