10 Horror Movie Sequels That Should Have Ended Their Series
7. Halloween II
This one may seem controversial to some, especially considering how successful and beloved some future entries in the series have become, but the fact of the matter is that Halloween II was intended to be the last hurrah for Michael Myers.
Once Michael had to be sent to the grave, the series was to continue on as an anthology with each film being a different story based around Halloween night. A cool concept, but one that ultimately died on its arse.
Halloween III: Season of the Witch was a critical and commercial failure, causing Michael Myers to be swiftly resurrected and the results ever since have been spotty at best.
There are several divergent timelines, retcons, and baffling narrative decisions along the way, so watching through the whole series can feel like an absolute chore - particularly when it comes to films like Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers and the truly wretched Halloween: Ressurection.
Granted, Halloween: H20 and the most recent 2018 film are worthy follow-ups but had they seen fit to end the series with Halloween II, there's little to no doubt that both Halloween 1 and 2 would be the undisputed gold standard for the slasher genre.
