10 Horror Movie Sequels That Should Have Ended Their Series

6. Paranormal Activity 3

Long after the found-footage craze had died out following the success of The Blair Witch Project, a little film called Paranormal Activity emerged out of nowhere and jolted it back to life with alarming force.

The no-budget chiller that could, Paranormal Activity took some time to find its feet, but eventually created a fire-storm at the box-office and a sequel came out in what felt like the blink of an eye. Naturally, it failed to live up to expectations, but that didn't stop the producers from quickly churning out Paranormal Activity 3, a more cohesive and narratively dense entry in the franchise that brought the story full circle.

But then they just kept on going...

Three more sequels have since followed and they've gotten worse as time's gone on, becoming far too reliant on tried-and-tested scares as opposed to attempting anything creative with the format. Even the story that the first three films clung to has become overwrought and convoluted to the point of not even mattering anymore.

Fans and critics have been pretty damning of the more recent entries, yet despite the odds, a seventh film is in the works and slated for a 2022 release.
