10 Horror Movie Sequels That Totally Insulted Great Characters
6. Kristen - A Nightmare On Elm Street Part 4
It’s another appearance for a slasher series on this list,
but don’t blame us—blame the producers who insist on offing any actor brave enough
to try and appear in a sequel. In this case it’s the star of The Blob director
Chuck Russell’s superb A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, the inventive
cartoony sequel which reignited the franchise after its dud of a second outing.
Kristen was a resourceful and likeable heroine in the third instalment, more vulnerable than many final girls and without any of the hectoring good behaviour expected from the role. Sure, she was chaste and drug-free, but that was mostly because as an insomniac shut-in she didn’t have a lot of opportunities to transgress, and the character had a believable charm which made her a worthy successor to Heather Langekamp’s iconic Nancy.
You know, until Freddy saw fit to off her early in the fourth film, in a scene which made it clear that her earlier resilience was apparently just dumb luck. Our fault for thinking the final girl would make it out alive (shout out to the eternally un***kwithable Sidney Prescott).
