10 Horror Movie Sequels That Were JUST Announced

7. Saw XI

After the unexpected critical and commercial success of Saw X, everyone involved was understandably quick to jump on producing an immediate follow-up, with Saw XI swiftly locked in to release on September 27, 2024, less than a year after Saw X.

However, it was ultimately delayed by a year to September 2025, and yet after months of radio silence, last March it was revealed that work on Saw XI had stalled due to disagreements between franchise producers, with reports emerging that the sequel was "totally dead" as a result.

Saw fans slowly came to accept that the planned eleventh film was cancelled, then, but at the start of June it was announced that Blumhouse Productions had unexpectedly purchased Twisted Pictures' stake in the franchise.

And if Blumhouse is good at anything, it's getting a sequel to a hit movie produced in a timely fashion.

While we don't know what form the next Saw film will take - either picking up as a sequel to Saw X or attempting another reboot - with the production roadblocks now removed it's reasonable to expect that the movie shoots in 2026 for release either later that year or in 2027.

In the very least, it's just comforting to know that Saw isn't going to be another beloved horror franchise deadlocked in legal limbo for years (looking at you, Friday the 13th).
