10 Horror Movie Sequels That Were JUST Announced
4. Happy Death Day 3
Time loop horror Happy Death Day was a stonking box office hit in 2017, grossing over $125 million globally against a budget of less than $5 million, ensuring that a sequel was speedily greenlit.
Happy Death Day 2U released in 2019 to solid reviews, though it ended up grossing barely half of its predecessor, likely due to poor marketing, a not-great release date, and the film's tonal shift towards sci-fi rather than horror.
Even so, it left the story wide open for a threequel, with many fans hoping that the second film's mere $9 million budget would still make it profitable for Blumhouse.
Though Blumhouse founder Jason Blum initially deemed a third film unlikely due to the underperformance of the second, he changed his tune in more recent years, and filmmaker Christopher Landon has continually banged the drum for a threequel he tentatively dubbed Happy Death Day to Us.
Well after years of campaigning, Landon and star Jessica Rothe confirmed back in April that the film is indeed finally moving forward.
No further details are yet available, but considering the reams of money the first film printed for Blumhouse, it's great that Landon will get to see his vision for a trilogy through to the end.
