10 Horror Movie Sequels We Didn't Want (But Got Anyway)

9. The Craft: Legacy (2020)

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer
Sony Pictures Releasing

1996's The Craft was a sleeper hit and launched the careers of Robin Tunney and Neve Campbell. Like so many 90's movies it has gone on to attain cult status and is now regarded as one of the best dark coming-of-age tales. Rumours of a sequel persisted in the following decades.

Fans were cautiously hopeful in March 2019 when Blumhouse announced a "reboot" of The Craft, later revealed as a sequel titled The Craft: Legacy. Following the successful troupe of "x years later" sequels, the film follows a group of middle school girls as they experiment with witchcraft eventually descending into darker dealings as they grow more powerful.

Unfortunately, The Craft: Legacy hit all the wrong notes with fans and critics alike. The biggest complaint being that it didn't offer anything new and played it too safe, coming off as a weaker retread of the original. Critics also pointed out that its link to the original simply isn't possible given the continuity both films follow with fans being disappointed that original star Fairuza Balk was reduced to a minute cameo.

The Craft: Legacy was just not the long touted sequel fans dared to hope for. Maybe it is for the best that the film saw release primarily on streaming platforms as it stands as more of a mark against the original than a loving tribute.
