10 Horror Movie Sequels We Didn't Want (But Got Anyway)

8. Jaws: The Revenge (1987)

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer
Universal Pictures

In the late 1980's MCA-Universal hit a rough patch and were in need of money. Despite the critical disaster of Jaws 3-D, the studio turned to their billion dollar franchise in hopes of a profit.

Jaws: The Revenge tells the story of series alum Ellen Brody who takes on the mantle of shark hunter after a great white kills her youngest son Sean and seemingly stalks her family to the Bahamas.

Does that sound ever-so-slightly ridiculous to you? It did to audiences at the time. Upon its release, Jaws: The Revenge was laughed off the screen universally. Critics lambasted the film for its ridiculous concept of a shark with a vendetta.

Also ridiculed were the woeful special effects, illogical story points and poor performances from usually strong actors. Jaws: The Revenge also fared weakly at the box-office, grossing $55 million against a $30 million budget, becoming a box-office bomb. The general consensus was that Jaws had become somewhat of a joke following the unintentionally comedic Jaws 3-D and the appetite for another film just wasn't there.

Now regarded as one of the "worst movies of all time," Jaws: The Revenge is the second entry on this list to hold a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film also dominated the 1987 Razzie Awards and is the "only movie" star Michael Caine regrets.
