10 Horror Movie Sequels We Didn't Want (But Got Anyway)
7. Hellraiser: Revelations (2011)
By 2011 the Hellraiser franchise had become a sad joke among horror film fans. Dimension Films saw the series only as a chance to make some quick cash and quickly churned out 5 films over 9 years. Most of these efforts went straight-to-video and its fair to say horror fans breathed a sigh of relief in 2005 when no movie was lined up to follow Hellraiser: Hellword. Could this embarrassing parade of schlock finally be over?
Unfortunately not. With the series rights about to expire and hoping to get a Hellraiser remake produced, Dimension Films bussed out Hellraiser: Revelations in October 2011. Sadly it makes absolutely no attempt to hide the fact it's been made solely to keep the property. Revelations is cheap beyond words, using the popular "found footage" technique during the first act to keep costs down. The remainder of the film is bound to a single home in the Hollywood Hills with a cast of bland nobodies meeting poorly executed fates.
But what of legendary franchise villain Pinhead, you ask? He's here, barely, looking more akin to a clown than a demon from hell. Actor Doug Bradley sensed a dud and refused to portray the character again, Revelations sees Pinhead badly re-cast, horrifically made up and doing little more than stroking chains and smirking.
Unsurprisingly, Hellraiser: Revelations was mauled by critics and audiences, but it didn't seem to matter to Dimension Films. The picture had served its purpose and they continued to churn out cheap sequels.
