10 Horror Movie Sequels We Didn't Want (But Got Anyway)
4. Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2 (1987)
"GARBAGE DAY!"
A bad movie becoming a meme is almost seen as a badge of honour nowadays. It's likely that even if you've never seen this film you've seen this iconic clip at some point on your internet travels. So, does this sequel live up to the expectation that only the worst movies become memes? Yes.
Originally conceived as a re-edit of the 1984 original, the idea for a Silent Night, Deadly Night sequel was born purely to cash-in on the controversy it created. The idea was enough for investors to offer some additional money and new scenes were filmed.
The sequel tells the story of Ricky, brother of the previous film's Billy. Ricky has been confined to an institution for years following violent behavior. On Christmas Eve he breaks free, dons a Santa suit and sets about hunting down the nun he believes "twisted" him.
Although it may sound promising, rest assured this sequel is a mess. The 88 minute picture re-uses over 40 minutes of its predecessor under the guise of "flashbacks." Ricky relives his horrifying past, recalling events his character couldn't have possibly witnessed. The new footage is certainly a sight to behold! Eric Freeman's eyebrows do most of the acting as he charges through his scenes bug-eyed and screaming.
The "special effects" on show are laughably bad and production values are so low that the entire crew is visible more than once It is little wonder why this film sank into obscurity until the rise of the internet... And how 3 more sequels followed this turkey is just baffling.
