10 Horror Movie Sets That Were (Allegedly) Haunted
9. Poltergeist (1982)
The fun and creepy classic horror film Poltergeist, released in 1982 and co-written by Steven Spielberg, is one of the most loved horrors of all time. Directed by Tobe Hooper and starring JoBeth Williams, Heather O'Rourke and Craig T. Nelson, the movie is considered a classic - and for good reason.
Poltergeist is said to have been plagued with negative energy and bad luck, resulting in accidents and the untimely deaths of some of its stars. In fact, there were allegedly four deaths associated with the film. The most well-known of these was 12-year-old Heather O'Rourke, who played Carol Ann in the film. Although many believe she died after the first instalment, her death actually occurred after the third was released. She tragically died of septic shock and her name was forever tied to the bad luck said to plague the franchise. Dominique Dunne, who played the older sister in the film, was killed by her boyfriend, at the age of 22. It has been suggested by some that the film was cursed and haunted because of the rumoured use of real human skeletons in certain scenes of the film.
There are stories in circulation that an exorcism was even performed on set after production wrapped up. Whether true or not, the accounts associated with this 80's horror classic are enough to give anyone the chills
