10 Horror Movie Twists That Changed EVERYTHING

1. He's Living In A Nightmare - Ghost Stories

An interesting framing device can often make or break an anthology movie, and Ghost Stories has one of the most memorable ones.

The flick follows Philip Goodman, a skeptic of all things supernatural, who's making a name for himself as someone who debunks supposed ghostly phenomena. By invitation he's asked to meet with a renowned paranormal expert who puts him on three cases that will apparently make him re-think his stance on there being no such thing as ghosts.

Those three stories act as the anthology short films, but they're all presented via Goodman's investigation as he comes to believe that something otherworldly is happening, and that he's more involved than he thought. Throughout each case he's haunted by repeated motifs: numbers, phrases, and even specific apparitions that appear to him.

Ultimately it turns out that what Goodman is experiencing is all in his head, as he's really in hospital after a suicide attempt. Some of the stimuli from the hospital - including the doctors - have made its way into his subconscious and function as the ghostly figures that keep him trapped in his never-ending nightmare.
