2. Laura Accidentally Got Her Son Killed - The Orphanage
The Orphanage is a bone-chilling tale of dead children released in 2007, and it has one final twist that makes everything you've seen so far even more tragic.
Like Searching, the film focuses on a parent's search for their missing child, only with way more supernatural sequences and terrifying kids in painted sack masks. Specifically, it's about Laura attempting to discover what happened to her missing son Simon after the two were visited by spirits one night.
After months of no luck and the increasing issues that come with living in a haunted orphanage, she finally attempts to live in harmony with ghosts and find a way to weirdly cohabitate. Unfortunately that leads her to a pretty awful revelation: Simon is actually dead, and she indirectly killed him.
It turns out that on the night he disappeared, Laura and Simon had a big falling out and he stormed off. While looking for him, the mother accidentally blocked the secrete passageway he was hiding in, resulting in Simon dying as he attempted to escape.
Like I said, it's an utterly tragic revelation but the two do manage to see each other one last time in the spirit world.
