4. A Movie Within A Movie - Book Of Shadows: Blair Witch 2
Blair Witch 2 is another bad movie on this list, but it was certainly ambitious. Rather than simply repeating the formula that took the world by storm in the original Blair Witch Project, the sequel shifted gears entirely with some ridiculous revelations.
First, Book of Shadows reveals that in this universe, The Blair Witch Project was just a successful movie. Like in real life, it made a lot of money and became a phenomenon, and as such the characters in this sequel are actually fans of the film who become obsessed with the idea of the Blair Witch and set out themselves to the woods to see whether or not there was any truth to the story.
It's not shot in the same found-footage style either, further distancing itself from the "fiction" of the original movie.
Now, this was certainly an ambitious way to recontextualise the franchise, but the sequel was an infamous dud and thankfully sequel Blair Witch would ignore it completely when it briefly revived the series in 2016.
