10 Horror Movie Twists That Changed EVERYTHING
3. The Doll Isn't Possessed - The Boy
In the run up to The Boy, it looked like the biggest Annabelle knock-off around.
Sure, they swapped out the chaotic Raggedy Ann doll for what's essentially an insufferable child politician made of porcelain, but the beats looked the same: A haunted doll mysteriously turns up on a family's doorstep, starts sneaking around the house on its own, and will eventually attempt to murder one or all of its new owners.
And, for the majority of the run time, that's the exact film audiences got. The doll is possessed by the spirit of a dead kid called Brahms, who's out to terrorise this family. It wasn't bad either; there were a few scares to be found, but nothing that made The Boy all that remarkable.
One final reveal turned that on its head though.
It turns out that the doll wasn't actually possessed at all, and the real Brahms had survived his supposed demise and been living in the walls of the house for years. It was him, sneaking around the house, that made it look like the doll was acting on its own, but really it was just one twisted dude.
Well, that was until the sequel had its own say on the mythology, but that's for another article...
