10 Horror Movie Villains Motivated By Love

5. Angelique Bouchard - Dark Shadows

Kathy Bates Misery
Warner Bros.

Dark Shadows is one of those movies that's all about the middle ground. It's not incredibly funny or incredibly scary. It's visually spectacular but emotionally hollow. Overall, it's pretty much bang in the middle among Tim Burton's film line-up. Still, one thing that really gives it an edge is the electric performances, none more so than the ever-enchanting Eva Green as Angelique Bouchard.

This maleficent witch only has one thing on her mind, and that's gaining the affection of her dearly beloved, Barnabas Collins. Of course, that means tearing down his family legacy, turning him into a vampire and cursing him so that all those he loves will perish. It's not the most emotionally stable way to handle rejection, but what can you expect from a witch?

Throughout the film, Angelique makes it clear that despite everything she's done to the movie's hero, she still has a deeply rooted love for him that borders on obsession. This drives all of her actions, as his sudden return sparks up a frenzy in her as she works hard to win him over.

In the end, she even gives him her literal heart, which could be a romantic gesture, were it not for the vulgarity of her character.
