The genius of Adam Wingard's You're Next is that it's structured like a pretty typical home invasion horror flick, only to completely turn its seemingly familiar setup on its head.
An estranged family finds themselves under attack by a group of killers wearing animal masks during a family reunion at a remote holiday home, but what nobody counted on - neither victims nor perpetrators - was one of the attacked being more than a little prepared to defend themselves.
As it turns out, the seemingly normal Erin (Sharni Vinson) grew up in a survivalist compound where she was taught advanced self-defense and survival skills. And so, pretty much any time Erin ends up facing off against one of the masked murderers, she makes short work of them in supremely satisfyingly, brutal fashion.
The killers assumed that their scheme - to kill the family in order to claim the insurance money - would go off without a hitch, only for Erin's combat-readiness to completely ruin everything for them. You love to see it.
