10 Horror Movie Villains With The Worst Motives

8. The Slaughters - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation

Sometimes a horror movie villain's true terror comes from having no motivation at all. In the case of Leatherface and the Sawyers in the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, their cannibalistic tendencies aren't ever given a backstory. They commit their sadistic acts simply because they enjoy them, which is a huge factor behind the original movie's terror.

But this is replaced by one of the most outlandish and unnecessary motivations in the history of horror by the time we get to the fourth entry in the series: The Next Generation.

It is explained that the family (renamed the 'Slaughters' for the movie) has been tasked with terrorising the local region on the orders of a secret society.

And that is about all audiences get for explanations behind this crazy development.

It's a pretty big can of worms to just open up, and it never gets given the screentime to reasonably justify itself. Its sole purpose is seemingly to throw a confusing spanner into a movie that is otherwise a blatant rehash of the same slasher formula Texas Chainsaw had become renowned for.

Horror fan, gamer, all round subpar content creator. Strongly believes that Toad is the real hero of the Mario universe, and that we've probably had enough Batman origin stories.
