10 Horror Movies Actors Wanted You To Hate
6. Rory Kinnear - Men (2022)
It is no secret by now that Alex Garland's Men stars Rory Kinnear as just about every man on screen, including a dorky landlord, a misogynistic vicar and a naked forest-dweller, haunting Jesse Buckley's protagonist Harper during a much-needed getaway to a quiet and unassuming village in Hertfordshire.
Playing at least nine different characters, each with their own personality, mannerisms, voices, accents and dark obsessions, is no easy task, and Kinnear gathered every trick from his character acting background to pull it off, switching seamlessly from character to character between takes.
Along with Buckley and Garland, Kinnear actively sought to tap into Harper's trauma and realise the results of her abusive relationship in a way that would make audiences identify with the experience while hating it. Indeed, as much with Men as with every film he finds himself portraying a villain, he wants the audience to come away from it with complex feelings and a confusion of love and hate for his characters.
