10 Horror Movies Audiences Walked Out On
2. Midsommar
Distribution company A24 sure do love themselves a freaky horror movie.
The company that brought audiences The Witch, Hereditary, and X never shies away from the obscenely terrifying and that is certainly the case with this film from 2019.
Described as a folk horror (two words that definitely don't sound like they go together), Midsommar follows Florence Pugh and Jack Reynor's characters to Sweden as they attempt to fix their fractured relationship.
Unfortunately, things only get more fractured as this picture goes along, including a lot of people's bones.
As well as being unsettling beyond belief and tense enough to give you a hernia, Midsommar is hideously brutal in places. In particular, there's one scene where a woman kills herself by jumping off a cliff.
Normally films would cut away from stuff like this, letter the viewer's imagination fill in the gaps. Does Midsommar do this? Nope. You see everything! Also, a man then does the exact thing and you see all of that too! Woohoo!
This scene was one of the many tipping points for cinemagoers, who decided that this was not the A24 movie for them and watched Uncut Gems instead.
