3. The Puppeteer - Nightmare On Elm Street III: The Dream Warriors

In A Nightmare on Elm Street 3, several teenagers are placed in a psychiatric institution after they claimed Freddy Kruger is killing them in their sleep. When the facilitators don't believe them, one of the patients, a habitual sleepwalker called Phillip, encourages his friends to rally together to defeat Freddy.

Realising the danger Phillip poses, Freddy is quick to eliminate him first. While he sleeps, Freddy slices open his tendons and parades him around the institution like a puppet on strings. After leading Phillip to a ledge, Freddy severs his strings, causing him to fall to his death.

This isn't just one of best kills in the franchise - this is among the most creative kills in any movie. The idea of using a person's tendons move them like a marionette is as imaginative as it is gruesome.

Also, Freddy's method of killing isn't just horrific but strategic. Because of the way Philip moves, his roommate assumes he's sleepwalking, which is why he doesn't wake him. Even though the series has some ropey effects, this entire sequence still looks spectacular, even by today's standards. On top of that, the actor portraying Phillip, Bradley Gregg, absolutely sells the excruciating pain he is in, to the point where it's genuinely difficult to watch.
