10 Horror Movies Scenes Shot For Real
5. No CGI Was Used To Age Down Esther's Actor - Orphan: First Kill
Focusing on another face that many likely assumed would have been tinkered with digitally, 2022's Orphan: First Kill saw the return of Isabelle Fuhrman as said orphan, "Esther", from the prior film.
It would eventually be revealed that this orphan was really a 33-year-old woman called Leena Klammer, with the character having hypopituitarism - a rare hormonal disorder that stunted her physical growth and left her looking like a kid.
With there being a rather large gap of over a decade between that first movie and this prequel, however, bringing Fuhrman back in the role certainly felt like a choice.
Would director William Brent Bell and his team look to de-age Fuhrman digitally to make it seem like she hadn't aged a day since her last appearance as the character 13 years earlier? In a word, nope.
Instead, Bell largely just left Fuhrman's now 24-year-old face alone whenever you could see it on-screen - outside of some contact lenses to make her eyes look bigger - using techniques like forced perspective and having her co-stars wear platform shoes to make her look like a 9-year-old girl in this universe (via EW). Body doubles were then used for moments that didn't involve seeing her face.
Unlike the rest of the entries on this list, however, you could argue that going real when it came to Fuhrman's face didn't particularly pay off, with her noticeably older mug unfortunately just being distracting and unintentionally comical throughout.
Swing and a miss.
