10 Horror Movies Set In Only One Location
4. Pontypool
Remember the years after 28 Days Later graced our
screens, when every few months or so you would be informed you simply had to
see this one zombie movie because it had such an original take on the
admittedly overstuffed genre?
Whether it was Quarantine, Zombieland, The Horde, or The Dawn of the Dead remake that gave us Zack Snyder (thanks for that), there were more remixes, reinventions, and revivals (har har) of the walking dead subgenre in the mid noughties than you could shake a severed arm at. That said, 2008’s Pontypool did offer an undeniably original take on the trope, with its gruesome action confined entirely to a small radio station and its infection stemming not from human to human contact or raging monkeys, but rather from words.
Yes, whether it’s affectionate terms of endearment or seemingly harmless offhand comments, hearing all manner of words could convert any poor soul into a crazed ghoul in the gory world of Pontypool, and this tightly plotted chiller saw a small crew of radio producers scramble to save themselves from the epidemic by holing up inside their workplace.
Inventive, dark, and often surprisingly funny, this zombie flick is—yet another—one not to be missed by fans of the subgenre.
