There have been a few attempts to bring the mystery of the Aokighara Suicide Forrest to life, and the majority of them have been lacklustre. The focus is ordinarily on the human side of the setting, but this 2016 horror attacks the myth of the haunted Sea of Trees in an entirely different way, and carrying us through it is the charming Natalie Dormer - Margaery Tyrell.

The story centres on Sara Price, a young woman who travels to Aokighara forest in an effort to find her missing twin sister - also played by Dormer. The story begins as a simple hunt for a family member in a haunted location but becomes far more profound as the film continues. The ultimate narrative becomes a tragic tale of woe, horror and Japanese folklore.

The film isn't perfect, as although the concept is fantastic, it doesn't deliver on many heart-pounding scares. Still the narrative, compelling setting and strong leading performance are certainly enough to make it essential viewing for fans of the horror genre.
