10 Horror Movies That Accidentally Filmed Things You Weren't Supposed To See

1. The Meteor - Jaws

If a piece of lighting equipment or a cameraman pops into view during a scene, it can ruin the entire movie. However, there are times where a scene can be enhanced by leaving in a certain detail by mistake.

And nothing exemplifies this point more than Jaws. As Brody prepares for the showdown with the man-eating shark, he strides towards his bag, and inspects his revolver to ensure it's loaded. As he looks up, a meteor soars behind him, its red tail streaking across the sky.

Contrary to popular belief, this shooting star is not an optical effect. As Steven Spielberg has discussed in The Making of Jaws, this celestial body appeared by chance during this scene, and the director happened to capture it on film.

Although Spielberg never intended to have a meteor in-shot (it would be weird if he did), he decided to leave it in, since it doesn't dilute the scene in any way. Because shooting stars are regarded a sign of a bad omen or a wish being fulfilled, the meteor actually fits into the context of the scene perfectly.
