10 Horror Movies That Accidentally Filmed Things You Weren't Supposed To See

2. The Helicopter - The Shining

There is no filmmaker more associated with perfection than Stanley Kubrick. His obsession to detail is the stuff of legends. If he had to shoot a scene over a hundred times to get it right, so be it.

And no movie demonstrates Kubrick's uncompromising vision more than the The Shining. Considering he shot the scene where Jack Torrance breaks down a door 127 times, you'd assume the eccentric director ensured every frame of his work was flawless.

But not only does The Shining have an obvious gaffe, it occurs in the first scene! As Jack is driving his family to The Overlook Hotel, you can see the shadow of the helicopter at the bottom right of the screen.

Some would argue this is technically not a mistake. "Maybe there was just a helicopter flying by at that point," Kubrick fans might say. However, it's repeatedly emphasised how isolated the hotel is, so there's no reason why choppers would be flying around this region.

Although this discrepancy isn't visible in most versions of The Shining, it's very obvious in the 4:3 print. if you happen to be watching this version, you should have no problem spotting the helicopter's shadow.
