A new Exorcist film, you say? One that's a direct sequel to William Friedkin's iconic 1973 picture?

Currently pencilled in for a theatrical release in Halloween 2023, David Gordon Green - who co-wrote and directed the recent Halloween trilogy - is overseeing a new Exorcist movie that will ignore anything but the events of that '73 effort.

For horror fans, it's just great to know that a new Exorcist film is finally happening, with it now 18 years since the last movie outing for the franchise. Even then, said last outing was the bland and boring Dominion, and the year prior to that we received the similarly dull Exorcist: The Beginning.

To find the last good Exorcist film, you have to go back to 1990 and the criminally underrated The Exorcist III. So, with audiences having their appetite whet with FOX's impressive Exorcist TV series in 2016 and 2017, there has been a growing demand to explore this world on the silver screen once more.

If you're one of those fans who have long waited to see a new Exorcist picture, you'll be ecstatic to know that Ellen Burstyn will be back as Chris MacNeil in this upcoming offering; an offering that's merely titled The Exorcist.

Of course, Chris is the mother of poor Regan, the young girl possessed and tormented in the original film and its sequel. All that's known about this new movie, is that Chris will be sought out by a father whose child is experiencing a similar possession to that of Regan.

Interestingly, this 2023 Exorcist flick is planned to be the launch of a new trilogy for the franchise.
