10 Horror Movies That Are Way Better When You Already Know The Twist
5. Us
In the opening of Us, a young girl called Adelaide enters a funhouse, where she's attacked by her doppelgänger.
Years later, we see Adelaide has settled down with a family and is enjoying a vacation in Santa Cruz. While Adelaide is trying to relax with her husband and children, her cabin is infiltrated by a carbon-copy of her family, led by Adelaide's double, Red. These doppelgängers, who call themselves The Tethered, begin torturing the family, preparing to kill them.
After a gruelling climactic battle, Adelaide and her family manage to kill their evil ersatz. But in the closing moments, it's revealed that Red isn't the doppelgänger - Adelaide is. When she was attacked as a child, they swapped places, allowing her double to steal her counterpart's life, forcing Red to live underground with the other Tethered for decades.
When you give Us another look, you should see Red, not as the embodiment of evil, but as a deeply sympathetic villain. Even though her methods to right a wrong are merciless, you can understand where she's coming from, considering her entire life was stolen from her.
