10 Horror Movies That Changed The Industry Forever
4. Night Of The Living Dead (1968)
In the last decade, Zombies have infected pop culture like no other sub-genre of horror, spawning a range of popular films, books, games and TV shows across the world. Surprisingly though, this all comes down to the influence of one particular movie. Without George Romero's Night of the Living Dead, there simply wouldn't be a zombie genre and the impact of this movie has been felt in every zombie film that's been made ever since. Although Night of the Living Dead never actually uses the term 'zombie', Romero's movie was the first to introduce the concept of zombies as flesh-eating monsters who have risen from the dead. Earlier films such as White Zombie and I Walked WIth A Zombie depicted the 'zombies' as humans controlled using voodoo magic, rather than the groaning cannibals that we've come to know today. Movies like 28 Days Later and Rec have since re-conceptualized some of the basic zombie tropes, making the undead faster or providing them with new origins, but the impact of Romero's original trilogy is inescapable for anyone even remotely interested in tackling the genre.
