10 Horror Movies That Could Have Ended After 10 Minutes
5. Alien
Alien is a masterclass in sci-fi horror, featuring nail-biting tension, suspense, and a horrifying creature brought to life through superb practical effects. It is a must-watch for any horror fan, and the Alien universe continues to grow with new films and an ever-expanding lore.
The Nostromo serves as the suffocatingly claustrophobic setting for Ridley Scott's Alien, and Ripley fills the role of final girl. After the ship investigates a distress beacon, one of the crew members is compromised when a creature attacks him and penetrates his suit. When he is carried back to the ship, Ripley attempts to enforce quarantine regulations, but her command is overridden and Kane is allowed back onboard, harbouring an unwelcome stowaway.
After the Facehugger removes itself and is found dead, all seems well until a Chestburster earns its nickname, killing Kane in the process and scurrying off in to the depths of the ship. It doesn't take long for it to grow in to a mature Xenomorph that stalks the remaining crew members, picking them off slowly.
Remember when Ripley attempted to quarantine Kane and refused him entry on to the ship? Maybe she was on to something. That's not to say that they should have left him for dead, but it's readily apparent that allowing an unknown species on to the ship with no knowledge of its capabilities is not the most sensible decision. Perhaps if the quarantine was enforced, the Alien franchise might never have made it past 1979.
