10 Horror Movies That Deserve A Reboot
9. Stay Alive (2006)
The second feature film from William Brent Bell (who'd go on to make The Boy and Orphan: First Blood), Stay Alive follows a group of friends who play an unreleased horror game. The catch is that dying in the game causes them to meet the same fate in real life at the hands of the game's mysterious antagonist.
Incorporating the real-life legend of Elizabeth Bathory while centring the narrative around an intriguing investigation, this underseen 2000s horror had a lot of solid ideas at its core. Instead of leaning into its strengths to deliver what could've been the video game equivalent of The Ring, Stay Alive frustratingly devolved into early 2000s horror tropes, which consequently resulted in an underdeveloped and convoluted mess.
With video game technology improving significantly since this film's release and Hollywood showing that they're capable of taking video games more seriously, there's no better time to give this cursed video game a second chance to shine.
By moving the action into VR and experimenting with modern game tropes like shifting environments, a reboot that doubles down on the original's strengths would be a delight for fans of horror films and games alike.
