10 Horror Movies That Deserved To Become Cult Classics (But Didn’t)

7. Fright Night Part 2

Nightbreed horror
TriStar Pictures

While the Tom Holland (Child’s Play) directed Fright Night (1985) can almost certainly be considered a cult vampire classic, and a quintessentially stylised movie of the time, its sequel is all too often over looked. Fright Night was a damn fine horror which perfectly blended a neon '80s colour tone with a classic Hammer Horror feel of the '60s and '70s. It was humorous in places, but was also quite horrific when it needed to be.

Fright Night Part 2 (1988) followed and rather nicely picked up where the original film had left off, providing a near perfect companion piece that also deserves to be highly regarded in its own right.

Part 2 is a sequel which provides an engaging follow-on story for main protagonist Charlie Brewster (William Ragsdale), who with the help of therapy has moved on from the events of the first film, disregarding the possibility of vampires as merely a figment of his over-zealous imagination. However, the reality of his situation is quite different of course, and the sultry vampire priestess Regine Dandridge (Julie Carmen) seeks him out for revenge for the killing of her brother in the original film.

There is great chemistry between Charlie and returning elder vampire hunter Peter Vincent (Roddy McDowall), and the seductive quality of Carmen gives the movie the kind of memorable sex appeal delivered also in its predecessor. Fright Night Part 2 does everything that a great horror sequel should by expanding the number of evil characters and delivering everything on a far grander scale throughout.
