Stephen King is the most renowned author in modern horror, and his stories have gone on to create some of the finest genre movies ever made, including Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining (1980) and Frank Darabont’s The Shawshank Redemption (1994). King's work has also provided us with countless other classic films, such as Brian De Palma’s Carrie (1976) and Rob Reiner’s Misery (1990). While a number of others - such as Creepshow (1982) and The Mist (2007) - slipped under the radar a little more, achieving a cult following instead.

Unfortunately, Dreamcatcher (2003) is not a Stephen King adaptation that has managed to find any particular form of love whatsoever, but it may just be one of the more epic of King's stories and it certainly deserves a lot more credit than it’s achieved. Dreamcatcher is a movie that is somewhat of an underappreciated masterpiece, blending elements of sci-fi, horror and fantasy with a multi-time-period narrative where we see the stories of two generations of the main characters weaved together.

There are plenty of iconic scenes, one in particular involving an attack of alien slug-like creatures, and the feature has a solid cast that includes Morgan Freeman (Se7en), Damian Lewis (Homeland) and Jason Lee (Dogma).
