10 Horror Movies That Ended Too Soon
8. Quarantine
Spanish horror film Rec was highly praised by audiences and critics for being a fresh entry in the too often lacklustre found footage subgenre, and it was quickly snapped up by Hollywood to be remade. Unfortunately, while Quarantine did reasonably well at the box office, it struggles to do anything new with Rec's premise and the few original choices that it does make are ill-advised.
Just like in the original, a tv news reporter and her cameraman fight their way to the top of a quarantined apartment building crawling with zombie-like mutations.
Here they discover information about a cult that stole a laboratory-made virus and deliberately released it into the building. This comes into play late in the movie, but it finally gives the characters some information they could use to try and fight back against their torment. Maybe this will lead to a valiant last stand as they battle their way back through the building to try and get word of a cure to the outside world?
Nope. The infected enter the apartment and kill them both.
This seems like a deliberate attempt to replicate The Blair Witch Project's ending, where the main character is also suddenly dragged away into the darkness by an evil force. But with all the relevant information about the virus only being shown to the audience right before the ending, it appears as though the filmmakers just decided to call it a day right before the ninety minute mark.
The sequel does elaborate on these ideas further, but it doesn't make this film feel any less rushed.
