10 Horror Movies That Flopped Hard In 2023

Seth Rogen has been a juggernaut recently, producing Invincible, The Boys, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem in the last few years. The Superbad star also tossed his hat into horror this year, producing the Edgar Allen Poe-inspired feature, Cobweb.

The trailers and promotions are crammed with every Halloween motif imaginable including jack-o-lanterns, trick-or-treaters, and pumpkin patches. As such, it seemed sensible for Cobweb to be released in October.

Although that was the original idea, the spooky thriller was shoved into a July slot with little warning, where it had to contend against $200 million blockbusters. And if tentpole movies like Transformers, Indiana Jones, Fast X, The Flash, and Mission Impossible underperformed, what chance did an indie horror have when it was sandwiched between them all?

But that's not the only reason why Cobweb bombed. It pretty much had to rely on zero marketing, meaning it coasted under the radar of a lot of moviegoers.

Failing to make a splash, Cobweb was dumped onto digital formats after a mere three-week run at theatres.
