Some horror flicks know their place, but others like to go beyond!

There's nothing quite like the feeling of sitting down to watch some healthy horror schlock and getting pleasantly surprised by what you see.

The horror genre festers in a corner of cinema that many people don't like to venture towards, but those who do spend most of their time there. You either love the scary side of cinema, or you hate it. But, no matter how you feel, it's safe to say that it's easy to underestimate it.

Although there have been plenty of scary flicks that enter the "best movies of all time" discussion - just look at The Shinning or Silence of the Lambs - the genre is still often seen as a lesser medium. That's because most modern horror films end up being cheap attempts to scare the crap out of you with jump scares and over-the-top editing.

However, there are many movies that lure you in with the promise of simplicity, only to slap you across the face with something profound and impressive. By rights, none of these movies should be as good as they are, but they went above and beyond to prove everyone wrong.

A movie set in one location, with a first-time director and a simple plot that essentially acts as a star vehicle for Megan Fox? And it's good? If you can claim you saw that coming, you'd better join the X-Men because you're clearly clairvoyant.

Till Death is a gruelling movie that follows Emma (Megan Fox), a woman who is handcuffed to her dead husband after a romantic trip gone wrong. As if that wasn't bad enough, she now needs to survive against two assailants on their way to kill her. Wow, when it rains, it pours.

Megan Fox is an actor who is often held to scrutiny. But, while she has delivered some poor performances before, she has also given the world plenty of strong showings. This is certainly one of those, as she plays the leading role perfectly, with just the right amount of desperation, determination and vulnerability. You really want to see her make it, which is why the movie works.

The directing chair also had an impact on this film, as the guiding hand of S.K. Dale in his feature-length debut helped make the movie stylish, punchy and far more passionate than anyone could have expected.
